Oh hell yes.

I got to HR30 today and the 3 star urgent quest appeared - Jien Mooran (ジエン・モーラン).
A HUGE sand monster with two massive tusks. The quest was to fight it off but we ran out of time. Three people on a quest that really needs four. Still, we put up a good fight and I enjoyed the hell out of it.

I think I need to beat it in order to be able to upgrade on of my slash axes to give it 1026 attack power. I'm looking forward to that day!

Progress!

Today we both killed and captured Uragankin, the big rolly one at the volcano. And mighty tough he was too. Then some events and Beirios(sp?) again.

For the single player I still needed the Skin of an Ancient Serpent (or something similar).

IT WAS ONLY THE SKIN OF A BLOODY SHARK!

I couldn't believe I'd been looking for something for that long for it to be under my nose the whole time.

Go kill fishy!

Online, online...

Up to HR21 now after having a good day with some HR18+ hunters.
We took out Diablos twice and Bereiriso(?), the snowy dude that looks like a Tigrex.
Oh, and that big leech, Giginebura.

Oops.

Where does the time go?

MH3!

I think I crested the 68-hour mark today and am now HR18.

I've teamed up to take out Ragiakurusu twice online and have a Bolt Axe and Ragia armour-bits to show for it.

Capcom admits there's a fault.

Capcom admits there's a fault.

"We don't know what the cause is."

Nice.

The servers for G and 3 are both unstable and prone to disconnecting.

Capcom! Sort it out!

Everyone online is complaining about how much people are disconnecting from the MH3 servers constantly. It's next to impossible to actually finish a quest right now.

It's bloody frustrating!

Progress.

After spending (literally) the whole day playing online today I managed to get to HR5. I'm looking at my next smashaxe and am trying out some different bowgun combinations to see what I like.

Online play

Well I just spent the last 7 hours on Network Mode and got up to HR5 which I'm quite pleased with. This is without playing the same quest over and over like I did on MHGii, even then I only got up to HR3 I think.

I got the last piece of makaraito to upgrade my boneaxe and so did that, plus made a big pile of Rudorosu armour for the next time I take on RoaRudorosu.

Boruborosu is next though...

Baruborosu! Swine!

First time I've failed a quest. GQ3.8 - time up while still fighting Baruborosu. I did lop off it's tail so it wasn't a total loss.

I'll get it next time.

Roarudorosu

Took him out!

...Now apparently he'll also appear in the forest area. With DosJagii, Kurupekko and him there it's turning into a dangerous place.

Kurupekko

Took him down. In the main game it seemed easier than in the Arena mode. Odd.

GQ 3.2

An egg quest. The eggs are in area 7 next to the tree-like thing. Sub A for this is one egg (so you get it automoatically), Sub B is 4 dragon bone crystals which are in area 11.

I heart Slash Axe

Oh my god, this thing is ridiculous and I love it. It can change between an axe and a large sword by pressing the dash button (R) but you can only use the sword-mode for a certain time and then you have to change back to the axe and wait for it to recharge.
As I'm more of a gunner it took a little getting used to, but I just took out two DosJagii with it and it's definitely growing on me.

Slash Axe!

After finishing off GQ (guild quest) level 2 yesterday, I started on level 3 today. After doing the first two the trader came to town and brought...The design for the Slash Axe! The new weapon in MH3.

I had one made and will be trying it out in due course.

Monster Hunter 3 (Tri-)

My thoughts on MH3 originally posted on NTSC-UK.

It arrived. I played.

The scene is Moga Village. There is a mysterious earthquake that upsets a lot of people and destroys the Guild camp nearby. You are a hunter who has just arrived in the village and you are given the task of taking out the Ragiakurusu (big swimmy electric one) though the Village Leader understands that you can't just do that straightaway and sets you up with a house. And that's how it begins.

This vaguely feels like the previous versions but the differences are obvious. Instead of training missions you are just allowed to roam the Moga Forest for as long as you like. There are tasks you must achieve, like getting a particular item, but other than that you can just kill the small monsters there to your heart's content. Killing the beasties there gets you points which you can use at the farm or with the fishermen. The guild is still there, though you can't do their missions to start with. Not until you have enough points to rebuild the base camp. Once this is done, away you go.

As one who played the demo that came with MHG I can honestly say it does look slightly better, some atrocious NPC pop-up in the village aside. The load times have been shortened every so slightly but are still not what you would expect from a Wii game.

There is no kitchen, but there is a restaurant. There's a cat in your room who will change your interior design the way you want it and transfer spoils from the arena mode to your character. Bowguns are made up of 3 parts, barrel, stock and frame, and the combination of the three determines what and how many rounds it can fire. I'm a bowgunner so that REALLY appeals to me. I haven't had much of a chance to use it yet as the 6-7 hours I played today just about got me everything I needed to make the three parts of the heavy bowgun.

The controls handle fine, though you'll find yourself running past the people in the village that you want to speak to as you suddenly break into a run. It does seems a little cramped there too. Mid-battle I have no complaints as it works great, even underwater. The underwater battles take a little getting used to. The right stick is used to control the camera and then the left moves your character. This way you can easily swim in any direction. I love fighting sharks. There are also special bullets that travel faster underwater and a whole bunch of other stuff I have yet to encounter.

I should say that I'm using a Classic Controller PRO to play and love it. The CC should have been made like this in the first place. It fits in the hand like a GC controller but is a little larger and the same weight as a normal CC. Shame I didn't get a black one though.

Simultaneous 2-player...Is only in the arena mode, where one or two player team up to take down a big monster. Let's be honest, we were half expecting the main game to have 2 players. It's a little disappointing but not really surprising considering how few details escaped Capcom's lips.

Network mode I have yet to try and probably will tomorrow as everyone gets a 20-day free trial. Hopefully I can get a good few ranks up.

I haven't been able to get myself off it since it arrived. It's like the other MH games but different enough that everyone will have something to get used to, not just the shinmai (inexperienced) hunters.

Continuous cooking?

So figured out how to cook more than one piece of meat at a time. You hold R and press Y to add another piece when the first piece has almost finished cooking.
Just getting that down pat wasn't easy.

Jouzu ni yakemashita!

Wh00t! Got the 連続肉焼きセット(renzoku nikuyaki set) so hopefully I can now cook more than one piece of meat at a time!
I swapped a large skull for it with the trader.

In the field

So there I am, happily blowing away jagii and jaginosu with my heavy bowgun and BANG!

DosJagii.

With the separate space in my new gunners pouch I had some ammo just in case, so I loaded up some shotgun shells and took him out. Five minutes later...BANG!

Another DosJagii.

And the info for the forest said they wouldn't be around until the day after tomorrow. Typical. Just like weather reports.

(I took that one out too btw)

DosJagii

DosJagii is the objective in Guild Quest 2.4 and it's pretty weak. Damage it's head for Sub A and daze it for Sub B.

Guild Quest 2.2

So here I had to go and get a certain rock - dragon bone crystal (竜骨結晶). Turns out this is located in Area 6. You'll have to go back once more to get all 4 required. Don't forget to kill 4 of those leeches for the second objective.

I. Hate. Fishing.

Guild Quest Lv1.3 - 目指せ釣り名人 (Heading toward being a pro fisherman)
Main: Get 3 黄金魚 (ougongyo, big gold fish).
Sub A: Get 2 小金魚 (shoukingyo, small gold fish)

I'm not a biggest fan of the fishing. In area 10 there are a seemingly-infinite supply of worms (釣りミミズ) which you can use to catch the fish. Both appear in the same area so just fish as long as you can then go and put them in the red box (納品ボックス). Remember to put the Sub A/B items in FIRST as you can't get the cash for them if you put the main item in first.

So it arrived.

Yes it did, thanks to my friend Mark who kindly forwarded it on to me.

I started out with the sword and shield and have upgraded them twice and now have a Hunters Curling. Then I got enough resources together to make the three parts of a standard heavy bowgun. There are no Lvl1 bullets to carry around which is great.
